Madrids Regionalpräsidentin Civuentes tritt nach Skandal zurück
Wegen Betrugs- und Diebstahlvorwürfen hat die Regionalpräsidentin von Madrid, Cristina Cifuentes, ihren Rücktritt erklärt. "Mein Handeln, mein ganzes Leben wird in Frage gestellt", sagte die 54-Jährige am Mittwoch. Sie sei Opfer einer "Lynchjustiz". Der konservativen Politikerin wird Betrug beim Erwerb ihres Hochschulabschlusses vorgeworfen. Zudem soll sie im Jahr 2011 Kosmetika in einem Supermarkt gestohlen haben.
Zuvor war ein Video öffentlich geworden, auf dem zu sehen ist, wie Cifuentes in einem Supermarkt von einem Sicherheitsbeamten aufgefordert wird, ihre Tasche zu öffnen. Bei dem Vorfall habe es sich um einen "unbeabsichtigten Fehler" gehandelt, den sie umgehend wieder gut gemacht habe, erklärte Cifuentes.
Die Politikerin, Mitglied der regierenden Volkspartei (PP) von Ministerpräsident Mariano Rajoy, stand seit einem Monat im Kreuzfeuer der Kritik. Mehrere Medien hatten ihr vorgeworfen, beim Erwerb ihres Jura-Mastertitels betrogen zu haben. Cifuentes wies die Vorwürfe zurück, allerdings bestätigte ihre Hochschule, die König-Juan-Carlos-Universität in Madrid, Unregelmäßigkeiten. Cifuentes löschte schließlich ihren Jura-Abschluss aus ihrem Lebenslauf.
Den Medienberichten zufolge soll Cifuentes nicht alle für den Abschluss nötigen Prüfungen abgelegt und die Vorlesungen kaum besucht haben. Außerdem wurde ihr vorgeworfen, sie habe mehrere der zum Erhalt des Diploms nötigen Unterlagen gefälscht. Die Staatsanwaltschaft ging den Vorwürfen nach.
Cifuentes erklärte vor Journalisten, mit ihrem Rücktritt wolle sie "verhindern, dass die Linke Madrid regiert". Die Opposition hatte ein Misstrauensvotum angekündigt. Es hätte Aussicht auf Erfolg gehabt, da die Mitte-rechts-Partei Ciudadanos angekündigt hatte, Cifuentes die Unterstützung zu entziehen. Cifuentes war drei Jahre lang Regionalpräsidentin von Madrid.
