Warning of .Bank and .Insurance Domains by fTLD Registry Services LLC
Top-Level-Domain (English for "top-level domain", abbreviation TLD) describes the last section (to the right of the dot) of a domain on the Internet and represents the highest level of name resolution. For example, if the complete domain name of a server or website is www.XXXX.Bank, the letter combination .com to the far right corresponds to the top-level domain of this name. In the Domain Name System (DNS), the names and thus also the TLDs are referenced and resolved, that is, assigned to a unique IP address. As part of the domain registration process, the domain name registrar creates a database entry about the holder, which enables whois queries via the protocol of the same name, similar to a telephone directory.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (short: ICANN) coordinates the assignment of unique names and addresses on the Internet. This includes the coordination of the Domain Name System and the allocation of IP addresses, which is also known as the "IANA function" (derived from the English Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). ICANN has it headquarters in Los Angeles and registered as a non-profit organisation in California. That ICANN obviously made a mistake in the allocation of the top-level domain .bank by the fTLD Registry Services LLC is obvious, since the "fTLD Registry Services LLC" as mentioned above is in no way qualified as a registrant for the activity!
Potential customers report a catastrophic order and service behavior of the fTLD Registry Services LLC in applications, not only exorbitant prices are charged for the top-level domain .Bank, but also in terms of qualification the fTLD Registry Services LLC, which is not reachable by phone despite numerous contact attempts, is in no way suitable as a registrant.
On the very badly programmed website of the fTLD Registry Services LLC, a full-bodied Hollywood-style story told: "The .BANK and .INSURANCE TLDs are operated by fTLD Registry Services, LLC-a coalition of banks, insurance companies and financial services trade associations from around the world-which ensures it is governed in the best interests of banks and insurance companies and their customers. fTLD has a deep understanding of the banking and insurance communities, their customers' and their institutions' needs. fTLD's mission is to operate a trusted, verified, more secure and easily-identifiable online location for these financial companies and their customers", which sounds more like a loudmouthed sales slogan than a "lack of service", because "fTLD Registry Services LLC" does not provide any service - so here again, we would like to warn you against doing business or registering domains through fTLD Registry Services LLC!
The statement "A .BANK or .INSURANCE at the end of a URL acts as a built-in stamp of approval for a bank or insurance business's security measures, letting their customers know their site is trusted, verified and more secure", is no more than a lie, European competition authorities would prohibit such a statement in court, so banks and insurance companies should be very, very careful when they think about registering .bank and .insurance domains!
BERLINER TAGESZEITUNG will ask ICANN in writing form to examine the business and tax records of the "fTLD Registry Services LLC" in detail, whereby ICAN must explain how such a "company" could be granted such a license in the first place!
